THOUSANDS of shoppers flocked to the Trafford Centre on Boxing Day in search of a bargain.

At least 500 people queued outside the retail and leisiure complex before it opened its doors - with some stores opening for business as early as 5am.

Richard Paxton, the centre’s general manager said: “Dramatic price cuts across a range of sectors have proven very attractive to our customers, and cars began to arrive as early as 3am, ready for the Debenhams sale opening at 5am, followed by Next and USC at 6am, and Selfridges at 8am.

"Huge reductions have been reported in electrical goods, men’s and ladies’ fashions, designer handbags and jewellery. Many people appear to be buying in bulk, and the shops are reportedly working hard to keep the shelves fully stocked.

“Many of our shoppers received an intu Trafford Centre Gift Card this year, and they are always keen to spend those in the sales after Christmas. Many bargains were snapped up within minutes of opening, with great trade particularly on party fashions and accessories.”
