AN Old Trafford woman has been convicted of benefit fraud.

Terri Glancy, 19, previously of Madison Apartments, was convicted on December 20 of dishonestly claiming housing benefit from Trafford Council.

Miss Glancy had failed to inform the council that she had vacated her address at Madison Apartments and moved to Ancoats, but continued to claim housing benefit from Trafford Council.

As a result she was overpaid housing benefit between August and November 2012, amounting to £1,400.

She was sentenced at Trafford Magistrates’ Court to a six-month conditional discharge and was also required to pay £50 towards prosecution costs.

Miss Glancy will also have to pay back all the monies she falsely claimed from Trafford Council.

The offence was discovered by council counter fraud officers following a data matching exercise which highlighted the fact that Miss Glancy had left her property.

Director of finance, Ian Duncan, said: “It is important that people make sure they declare all information relevant to their claim and let us know if their circumstances change at any time.

“Failing to do so could see them receiving benefits they are not entitled to and being prosecuted as a result.”
