CUSTOMERS of Eden Square shopping centre have raised concerns about a broken lift.

Due to a fault there has been only one working lift at the retail centre, which is causing problems for shoppers.

Urmston resident David Weiner said the situation has gone on for so long that it is becoming intolerable.

"I go to Eden Square every weekend and the lift hasn’t been working properly for weeks now and nothing has been done.

“Before Christmas, it was really busy with the Christmas rush and there were lots of people queueing for the lift with their trolleys to get up to the car park.”

The lift was newly installed only a few months ago so customers are frustrated that it is not working, particularly during the busy shopping season.

David added: "It's too easy for them to put a sticker on it and let people struggle."

Dion Mulvey, operations manager at management firm Savills, said that the company is aware of the problem and they are working to get it fixed.

He said "The lift is actually working intermittently but as it's not always reliable we didn't want people to get trapped in the lift if it stopped moving. So for safety reasons we have shut it down."

Mr Mulvey said that the lift in the left-hand tower block has suffered a catalogue of breakdowns but the issue should be resolved soon.

"Engineers have investigated the problem and we have ordered a new part at considerable cost. The new part has been ordered from Spain and cost in the region of £5,000."

"It's a foreign lift so that means we’ve had to source foreign parts and that’s why it hasn’t be fixed yet.”
