FOUR members of one Partington clan are keeping it in the family – as they all work at SAICA’s paper mill.

The family members perform varying roles at the state-of-the-art mill, known as PM-11, which recycles around 450,000 tonnes of used paper each year to produce 400,000 tonnes of recycled containerboard.

Alethea Hill, a credit controller in the company’s finance department, was the first member of her family to begin working at the mill in September 2011, before the first paper was produced.

Alethea’s sister and fellow Partington resident, Julie Gill, then secured a job as a cleaner in May 2012.

But three members of one family wasn’t enough for this enthusiastic team.

Julie’s son Thomas, who left the Royal Navy to join SAICA as a level two operator, started in April this year, while her daughter Charmain completed the package when she took up work as a cleaner alongside her mum this summer.

Julie, aged 49, said: “We are a close family and we all get on well, and I’m really proud that we all work here at SAICA.

“It’s really handy to all be based in Partingon. It’s a rarity these days to live so close to where you work.”

Pasi Hayrynen, plant manager at PM-11, said: “SAICA began as a family owned business and still is to this day.

“It’s fitting, therefore, that we have four members of a tight-knit Partington family working with us here.”

SAICA’s £300m facility began producing paper in January 2012.
