A HEROIC woman helped an Altrincham cafe-owner whose business was being ransacked by yobs.

The woman, who only wants to be identified by her first name Faye, was walking past Soda, in the Dome, at around 2.40pm on Wednesday, December 18.

Faye said there were around six boys in the cafe, four of whom had been stealing sweets, shouting abuse and causing damage and two others, who were wearing Altrincham Grammar School for Boys uniforms and were not involved in the incident.

The ringleader of the group had threatened the owner, thrown the till at him, narrowly missing the cafe-owner himself but damaging his ‘prized guitar’.

“Just as I was walking past I heard the owner shouting and trying to push one of them out, but the boy was doing everything he could to stay inside and started punching the guy,” said Faye.

“The owner ran behind the counter to try and phone the police, but the boys got behind the counter as well and pushed him.”

Faye said the owner was a lot bigger than the boys and was clearly did not want to respond to their aggressive behaviour, so she stepped into the cafe, followed by another lady, in an attempt to make the yobs leave.

“I just wanted to give him a bit more presence really, I told them to pack it in and get out, that sort of thing and they eventually got out and I called the police.

“Then they started throwing tables and chairs at the man. It was just a bit unpleasant, anything could have happened to him.”

Despite her brave actions, Faye said she simply acted on natural instinctshe also praised the Altrincham Boys students.

“They stayed behind afterwards and helped the owner pick up the change and tried to clean up, I phoned the school to thank them.”

Police attended the incident and are currently conducting enquries.
