THIS January, Trafford Council is urging its residents and employees to join the Dry January campaign and give up alcohol for 31 days.

The campaign is aimed at those social drinkers who are perhaps drinking a bit too much too often and have over indulged over the Christmas period.

Organisers stress saying no to a tipple or two for a whole month could help participants save money, improve their health and sleep patterns and help people shed the pounds after the excesses of Christmas.

According to the World Health Organisation, alcohol is a causal factor in more than 60 medical conditions including cancer, high blood pressure, strokes and depression.

Alcohol also is a cause of seven different types of cancer including breast, throat and liver cancer. Anyone interested in joining the Dry January campaign should visit dryjanuary.org.uk.
