LEADING names from the world of football payed their respects at the funeral of Manchester United star Bill Foulkes.

Speaking at at St Vincent’s RC Church in Altrincham, Sir Bobby Charlton said the former Busby Babe was a “great player” and a “hero” who helped save lives in the aftermath of the 1958 Munich air disaster.

Bill Foulkes played in the United team that went on to lift the European Cup 10 years after the tragedy.

The funeral was attended by former teammates, including Brian Kidd, Alex Stepney and Denis Law and former Manchester City star, Mike Summerbee.

Bill Foulkes died on November 25, at the age of 81.
