Solicitor voted youngest president of Trafford Law Society

AT the age of 30, Sarah Turnbull is probably the youngest solicitor to be elected as president of the 30-strong Trafford Law Society.

She has worked as a specialist in family law and personal injury at Nicholls Solicitors in Timperley for five years.

“It was only when I was at Sir John Deane’s College doing business studies that I decided I wanted to be a solicitor.   Law came into it and I liked it,” she said.

Her current boss, Pat Nicholls taught her family law when she studied at Manchester University.

“I did work experience at his office, starting as a typist then a day a week during my legal practice course.

“Some of the personal injury cases have affected the client’s whole life.   It is good to have been able to help.”

Sarah joined the Law Society four years ago.

“We give training and if a solicitor is in difficulties we would make the National Law Society aware of it.”

The main issue facing members has been cuts to legal aid.

“It has forced a lot of practices to close because of the loss of income,” she said.

The Trafford Law Society also helps local charities.   In 2014 they plan to give £500 to Trafford Domestic Abuse Services

“We chose them because some who would have got legal aid may not now be entitled and may need to seek help elsewhere,” she said.
