A BURGLAR threatened an Altrincham woman with a knife in her own home.

Police have now released an efit of the burglar following the incident, which took place at around 9am on November 25, on Hale Road.

The woman left her house to walk her children to school and noticed a shifty-looking man looking at her home.

She then saw him go down an alleyway that runs alongside her house.

When she returned from the school a few minutes later she noticed the knife drawer open in the kitchen and heard someone rooting around upstairs.

The offender had previously smashed the rear French doors with a plant pot and climbed in through the window.

He was rummaging through an upstairs jewellery drawer when the victim grabbed a knife from the drawer for protection and left the house, calling the police.

Realising the burglar was still in the house she went back in and yelled up the stairs for him to get out.

He then ran down the stairs, still clutching a knife, before running into the kitchen.
He then dropped the knife and climbed back through the broken window and ran off.

The burglar was described as a white 20-25 years-old, about 5ft10in tall with a skinny build, dark short hair, ‘wispy’ moustache and wearing a light grey beanie hat.

Martin Hill, based at Altrincham police station, said: “This woman clearly had good instincts when she spotted this man lurking outside her house and knew he was up to no good.

“We can all imagine the feeling of dread she must have had when she saw the kitchen drawer open and realised someone was in her house.

“Thankfully she had the presence of mind to get out of the house and raise the alarm. We have now released an efit of the suspect and want everyone to take a look and tell us if you recognise him."
