TWO Trafford men went on a drinking binge and threatened staff after booking a room in Manchester’s Hilton Hotel.

Salesman Rory Carroll, 23, from Hale, who was at the time employed by the MEN, and George Murphy, 21, from Sale, had already been on a friend’s birthday bash.

Four hours later they staggered down for breakfast.  Both were bare foot and one was dressed in just his underpants and t-shirt.

They were refused entry into the restaurant and were seen later sliding down bannisters on the first floor, the Manchester City Magistrates’ Court was told.

And their antics were witnessed by the MEN’s managing director – Carroll was sacked 36 hours later said his lawyer Franklyn Sinclair.

“You just couldn’t make it up,” said Mr Sinclair.

The men had drank dry the mini bar in their £400 a night room and damaged the fridge door.

“The amount they consumed was mind boggling,” claimed Mr Sinclair.

Carroll had paid for the room and a further £170 for the mini bar drinks.

Prosecutor Kerry Bell said the men had been rude and used foul language towards Laura McEwan, director of operations at the hotel and her colleague Charles Forbes, conference and events manager.

They continued with their behaviour, shouting and screaming after being told to leave and were arrested soon afterwards on December 2.

Jobless Carroll of The Haven, Hale, admitted two charges of using threatening and abusive behaviour likely to cause harassment and alarm.

He was fined £165 with £85 costs and £20 surcharge – and pay compensation of £50 each to the hotel workers.

Mr Sinclair said that Carroll had written a letter of apology to the hotel.  In his short time with the MEN he had been twice the salesman of the month.

In court Carroll said: “I am horrified and disgusted by my behaviour.

“I am ashamed and my family is mortified – I have lost a job I loved”.

Murphy of Chiltern Gardens, Sale, entered no plea to the charges and was bailed until later in the month.
