A GAP in a Metrolink fence between Brooklands and Timperley is causing concern for nearby residents.

Joan Astley who lives on Shrewsbury Road, about five minutes from the site, says her neighbour’s dog was recently hit by a tram after escaping through the gap while chasing a squirrel. The dog died.

According to Mrs Astley when she phoned Metrolink last month they told her to write a letter and send a photograph of the hole, but she hasn't done so.

She says; “If they can’t find it they need to go to Specsavers.”

Mrs Astley says the hole is big enough for a person and that: “A child could get through and go down there. Children get up to all sorts of silly things and they could get onto the line.”

The gap is close to Smithfield where boys aged eight to ten regularly play football.

A spokesman for Metrolink said: "We would like to get this looked into and repair this gap straight away.”
