Prince's Trust gives Timperley orchard a much-needed makeover
A TIMPERLEY orchard is getting a much-needed makeover thanks to the Prince’s Trust Trafford Team.
The orchard, which sits within Broom Wood, on Carfield Road, had become overgrown due to long-term neglect – which the ‘Team 18’ felt made it ripe for regeneration.
Twenty-year-old Prince’s Trust volunteer, Damon Daniels, who is from Stretford, said: “It was just neglected and left there so as a group we’ve been out their fundraising and managed to raise £350 for the whole project.
“It’s just to make the whole area look a bit nicer, it will still be used as an orchard and is open to the public.”
The group raised the money through bag-packing at Tesco stores in Altrincham and Sale and has used it to plant flower beds and generally improve the orchard.
Andrew Dibble, Prince’s Trust Trafford team manager, said: “The site was chosen after a search for local community projects that met the criteria, several of which were identified.
“The group sessions the team then discussed the benefits, possible outcomes, risks, sustainability and balance this against the positive outcome for a local community.
“The Prince’s Trust Team Programme builds confidence, helps to motivate those that may be struggling and shows the young unemployed people in the area that they have a real positive contribution to make when given the tools, opportunity and encouragement to get on.”
Team 18 officially handed the new-look orchard back to the community today, November 1.
