Sainbury's team leader who lost two brothers wants to inspire with skydive
A SAINSBURY’S team leader from Altrincham, who has suffered more tragedy than most in his 28 years, is to undertake a charity skydive in the hope he can be an inspiration to others.
David Arnold, of Mainwood Road, is completing the feat in aid of Francis House, who cared for his younger brother Jamie who died in 1998, aged just five-years-old.
David said: “I know at first hand how much of a great place and help Francis House can be in such awful circumstances.
“Me and my family spent one Christmas there and I can't begin to say how great the staff were, even with my brother being so ill, it was one of the best Christmases I had with him.”
Sadly, Jamie’s death was not the only tragedy to befall the family, as David’s older brother, Ben, died in 2004 after being attacked by two men while on a night out in Manchester.
“After six months in hospital, we were able to bring my brother home but he needed 24 hour round the clock care, which meant my family moving to a special adapted house and my mum giving up her job to do this.
“After nine months at home my brother tragically pass away from a blood clot.
“Ben was only nine months older than me, so growing up we were very close. It was very tough to deal with.”
However, while David said he found he struggled to move forward in life for a long time, last year he decided to take decisive action and got a job in Canada for six months and plans to return for a further 12 months next year.
He added: “The skydive is something I've wanted to do for a very long time but never had the confidence until now.
“I really feel I've turned a corner in my life and want people to see this and also want to give hope to people who are going through hard, awful times, that life can and will get better one day. I'd love to be an inspiration.”
