THE Greater Manchester Marathon, which culminates in Old Trafford, has announced the main two charities.
The ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon, which takes place on April 6, will be raising money for Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity and the Christie charity at their event, which begins and ends near Manchester United Football Club.
The Christie has radiotherapy centres in Oldham and Salford and treats more than 40,000 patients a year. It has been pioneering cancer research for over a century.
Last year 170 runners took part in the race for the charity.
“We are delighted to be a part of the marathon again this year,” said Rachel Steele, sporting events officer for the Christie.
“By helping to pay for vital research, treatment and care for our cancer patients - every penny raised really does make a huge difference.”
“We hope that we can welcome even more runners to Team Christie in 2014.”
