Stuart Hall charged with 15 rapes – some abuse allegedly committed in Sale
DISGRACED ex-BBC presenter, Stuart Hall, has been charged with 15 rapes and one count of indecent assault involving two girls.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) authorised Lancashire Police to charge Hall yesterday – and confirmed to Messenger that some of the abuse was allegedly committed in Sale, as well as in Manchester, Stockport and Wilmslow.
The 83-year-old, from Wilmslow, is currently serving 30 months in prison for other sexual offences.
He is due at Preston Magistrates' Court on November 8.
The charges relate to two girls, the first of whom was between 14 and 16-years at the time of the alleged offences, which occurred between January 1, 1976 and September 30, 1978.
The charges in relation to the second girl allegedly took place when she was 11 or 12 and 15 and occurred between January 1, 1976 and January 1, 1981.
All the alleged offences that took place in Sale are said to have happened in 1981.
Nazir Afzal, chief crown prosecutor for CPS North West, said: "Following a careful review, we have decided that there is sufficient evidence to prosecute Stuart Hall for 16 alleged sexual offences against two girls and that it is in the public interest to do so.
“It is alleged that Stuart Hall committed offences against one girl, aged between 14 and 16, from 1976 to 1978 and another girl, aged between 11 or 12 and 15, from 1976 to 1981.
"This decision to prosecute has been taken in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors, the CPS legal guidance on rape and sexual offences and the DPP's guidelines on prosecuting cases of child sexual abuse."
