Car windscreen of Coronation Street actor, Michael Le Vell, smashed by vandals
CORONATION Street actor Michael Le Vell has spoken of feeling ‘threatened’ after his car windscreen was smashed at the weekend.
Hale-resident Le Vell, who was cleared of 12 counts child sex offences last month, told the Sun: “I can’t believe it was a random incident – people have threatened my safety.”
Friends of the 48-year-old also told the Mirror newspaper that Le Vell, whose real name is Michael Turner, now plans to travel to Australia to visit his brother in order to escape speculation and online abuse.
The friend told the Mirror: “Mike wants to leave the country and get away. He is planning a holiday away and is tired of the constant abuse and talk about the trial.
“He feels like he is being targeted by a couple of stupid people and going away to relax is the only option.
"Ideally he wants to go and see his brother in Australia. If he can’t be in his own home then he doesn’t want to be here at all.”
It has also been alleged people have been leaving threatening messages on his Facebook and Twitter accounts, one user stating that the soap actor should be ‘axed in the skull’.
Le Vell told the Sun: “I’m innocent, so I should have no reason for people to threaten me. I have never hidden away and I won’t start now — this was the act of a coward.”
Pictures circulating the internet show that the rear windscreen of Le Vell’s silver Ford Puma has now been covered with plastic sheeting.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “We were called to a report of damage to a motor vehicle in the Hale area of Manchester. Enquiries are ongoing.”
