Co-op Christmas advert filmed in Timperley

A WINTER wonderland descended on Timperley last week as a national supermarket chain filmed its Christmas television advert in the town.
The Co-operative filmed its latest advert – rumoured to cost around £500,000 – on October 8 for the upcoming festive period on Stockport Road.
The supermarket involved several businesses in the area in the advert to bring them into the Christmas spirit a bit earlier than usual with snow and candy floss.
One of the businesses involved was hairdressers Cuts Both Ways, and manager Rob Sands feels the exposure was good for the area, with some of the shops even being converted for the cameras.
“It was really nice and they did a really good job,” he said.
“It was surreal and there were little Christmas trees and lights in the windows and a snow machine.
“It looked great. It makes a good little story and the effect was really good.
“They went around our shops, mine was turned into a toy shop and the opticians became a clothes shop.”
Andrew Mann, customer director for The Co-operative Food, believes Timperley’s community played a big part in creating something that will get the whole country excited about Christmas.
“We’ve chosen one of our local stores in Timperley to film this year’s show-stopping, national Christmas TV ad, creating a winter wonderland, complete with Christmas lights, carol singers and artificial snow,” he said.
“The whole ‘Christmas’ shopping experience was made even more special during filming when the local community came out in force to support us, bringing a huge dose of festive cheer.
“We even had a local Cub Scout group, the 1st Timperley Cubs Kipling Pack, entertaining the crowds with Christmas carols.”
