MP Kate Green challenges funding for accident and emergency departments
6:40am Friday 4th October 2013 in News
KATE Green, MP for Stretford and Urmston, has challenged Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt over funding for Trafford A&E services.
Ms Green said the failure to promise more funds for Central Manchester or Wythenshawe A&E meant they risked even greater pressures.
Last winder, Wytheshawe A&E missed the four-hour waiting time target at least 30 weeks out of 35 and which will have to cope with more patients due to the downgrading of Trafford General’s A&E, Jeremy Hunt told Ms Green that the Government was being extremely careful, making sure that any impact on Trafford General’s neighbouring A&E departments is ‘properly thought through’.
She said: “Last winter put huge pressures on A&E, but our A&E services haven’t been given any additional funding to help them cope with the pressures that will follow the reorganisation this winter. I’m worried that our local NHS simply won’t be able to cope.”
