Tandem duo on charity mission
ALTRINCHAM couple Bob and Pat Sweet are about to complete a 5,500 mile tour of Britain - on a bicycle made for two.
The duo will complete their mammoth tandem trek in October and they hope their energy sapping exploits will raise funds for charity.
Pat, 62, said they are looking for sponsorship in a bid to raise cash for the British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research.
She said they decided to get on their bike after watching the BBC programme Coast, which provides viewers will an armchair trip aroud the UK’s coastline.
Pat said the tour has so far taken in a range of different desttinations including North Wales, Devon, Cornwall, Eastbourne and Aberdeen.
She said her husband Bob, 59, cycles to work every day and completes an average of 4,000 miles a year and added that they’ve both really enjoyed the experience.
Pat said: “It’s nice on a tandem because you’re together. You notice a lot when you’re on the bike and you meet lots of people. Sometimes the people who see you in the middle of nowhere remember you because not many people ride tandems. When our bike broke down somebody saw us a few days later and said have you had your bike fixed yet?.”
