Carrington dad smashes into parked car and street furniture after drinking binge
4:00pm Monday 23rd September 2013 in News
A CARRINGTON man smashed into a parked car and street furniture at 7am after a lager drinking binge with a friend.
Father-of-three Daniel Bratherton, 36, who caused £5,000 of damage to his own vehicle, was disqualified for two years in Manchester.
The court heard he had knocked back 10 pints of lager after splitting up with his partner.
Bratherton, of School Lane, admitted driving while over three times the drink limit and possessing cannabis on August 14.
He was sentenced to 80 hours of unpaid work and given a community order to attend a drivers’ impaired by alcohol programme.
Prosecutor Jane Wilson said Bratherton had been drinking erratically and hurled a torrent of abuse while passing a lorry driver before crashing in Chorlton.
Bratherton, a full-time carer for one of his children who has severe health problems, had several previous convictions for excess alcohol and failing to provide a breath specimen.
“He is deeply ashamed – his judgment was severely impaired by alcohol,” said defence lawyer Estelle Parkinson.
Passing sentenced the court told Bratherton: “We accept your situation with your child makes life difficult for you. But you drove after a drinking binge and that is totally unacceptable”.
