Trafford Centre takes the cake for 15th birthday

A BUDDING young cake-maker has undertaken the biggest commission of her career – creating a huge birthday cake to celebrate intu Trafford Centre’s 15th birthday.
Zara Neild, 28, took five days to create the life-sized cake in the shape of a dress, which was inspired by the September 2004 cover of Vogue magazine.
Zara said: “We’ve created an intricate design in muted gold and crystal – to reflect the autumn season’s colours. We used 150 eggs, 25 kilos of flour, 15 kilos of sugar paste, and 400 edible pearls all applied by hand.
“The intu Trafford Centre’s 15th anniversary is themed ‘crystal’, so we hand-crafted hundreds of crystals made from shards of Fox’s Glacier mints. Around the bakery we’ve christened her ‘the foxy lady’.
The cake also appeared at the centre’s champagne style event last week, which looked back at 15 years of style, as told through the evolution of September-issue Vogue covers.
