Missing photos returned to descendents of Trafford man after Messenger campaign
PHOTO albums holding cherished memories of a Trafford family have been returned to their rightful owners thanks to a Messenger reader.
In July, Messenger featured an appeal from a mother and daughter from Devon, Pamela Higginbotham and Jane Tytheridge, who had found the albums in a cottage around five years ago and had managed to work out that they featured a family who lived in Urmston and Sale.
The albums revolved around a man called David Cartwright, born in 1934, whose parents were Ivy and Eric Cartwight.
The family lived on Barnfield Road in Urmston, as well as in Brooklands – where a picture of David, celebrating his first birthday at a house on Framingham Road, is featured in the album.
Sue Chapman, 60, who now lives in Urmston, used to live close to the Carwright’s in Sale and often helped Ivy with her garden.
She said: “I was babysitting for my daughter and she’d just put the paper in the recycling bin and I thought I’ll have a flick through these and then I thought I’m sure that’s Mrs Cartwright.”
Sue then managed to get in touch with David’s son, Andrew Cartwright, 50, who lives in Jordans, near Beaconsfield in Buckinghamshire, with his wife and three children.
Andrew said that his parents, David and Patricia, have now died and he had tears in his eyes when he saw the photographs.
Andrew, who is a company director in the industrial machinery market, said: “The children were thrilled to see these pictures as they have heard me talk about my dad over the years and his parents, it brought all the childhood memories back for me when we used to visit my grandparents’ house.
“The family would like to thank all of those involved in reuniting the photos, in this day and age it’s heart-warming that people will take the time to do this.
“These two ladies in Devon, they don’t know how happy they have made the children of David the grandchildren of Eric and Ivy and the great grandchildren of Eric and Ivy and David.”
