MP hosts 'marvellous mutts' day
KATE Green, MP for Stretford & Urmston, hosted a ‘marvellous mutts’ responsible dog ownership awareness day in Stretford at the weekend.
The event was held at Victoria Park on August 31 and brought together representatives from the RSPCA, the Blue Cross, Guide Dogs for the Blind and Greater Manchester Police (GMP), as well as dog trainers from the area.
Many dog owners came along to take advantage of the free dog microchipping offered by the RSPCA Manchester & Salford branch and the Blue Cross.
Ms Green said: “I was really pleased to meet so many lovely dogs and their owners in Victoria Park.
“I have been contacted by many residents who are rightly concerned about aggressive dog behaviour in our parks and dog fouling and so I was happy to host a community event for people to have a conversation about responsible dog ownership, as well as take part in fun activities for all the family.
“I want to say a big thank you to all the excellent local and national organisations who took part and I’m looking forward to further campaigning on these important issues.”
Teachers from Trafford dog training schools – Perfect Paws and Flixton Dog Training Club – spent the day chatting to owners about the importance of good dog training and GMP officers gave advice on responsible dog ownership and the law.
Debby, from Perfect Paws, said: “I hope the advice that we gave to owners at the event was helpful and they went away motivated to put what they learnt into practice at home.”
