Urmston girl needs help reaching Malawi fundraising target
AN Urmston teenager is asking for help from Messenger readers in a last ditch attempt to raise funds for her charitable expedition.
Jasmine Ojofeitimi, 18, of Lime Avenue, will begin her gap year in Malawi, Africa, next week, but is still £2,000 short of her £5,400 fundraising target.
The money will cover Jasmine’s insurance, flights, training and living expenses while she works at Joshua Orphan and Community Care, in the small town on Pensulo.
“I’ll still be able to go because the charity knows I’ve done all I can, but I’m just desperate to raise the money really as I don’t know how I’m going to do it in such a short space of time,” said Jasmine.
The former Urmston Grammar School student recently finished her A-levels in English, Sociology and Business Studies at the school’s sixth form and has secured a place at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN) to study social work, once she has finished her 12 months abroad.
Jasmine has held two events and five car boot sales since she began fundraising in March, but has run out of time and she is now looking for sponsorship.
The 18-year-old will be teaching class of up to 120 children as well as living in rural conditions, as part of her work for the charity 'Project Trust' .
