Trafford pain service wins national award

A TRAFFORD health service group has won national recognition.
Trafford Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and Altrincham-based healthcare business Angel and Bowden have jointly won the ‘Musculoskeletal Award’, at the prestigious Integrated Care Awards, sponsored by the HSJ and Nursing Times.
The award recognises an innovative pain service developed by the companies alongside patients who suffer from back, neck or joint pains.
The CCG - the borough’s GP-led commissioning organisation - thought the best way to design a service for people who suffer muscular pain was to ask the patients themselves.
With an understanding that surgery should always be the last option, the patients thought pain management education would be a real benefit.
Dr Nigel Guest, chief clinical officer of Trafford CCG said: “This award and the success of the service show just how beneficial it is to design healthcare in collaboration with patients.
“It has had a positive impact on the lives of those residents and we will be looking to do more of this to really transform health services in Trafford.”
The face-to-face education service has had a successful response with 73 per cent of attendees showing an overall improvement after completing their course and 96 per cent giving a positive response in the post satisfaction survey.
The free NHS musculoskeletal pain service is run at three different community locations across Trafford; Urmston Leisure Centre, Altrincham Town Hall and Sale West Community Centre, allowing patients to choose a venue which is closest to them.
Residents who would like to be considered for referral should contact their GP. For more information on the service visit: intelesant.com/msk/
