Join the National Trust’s Great British Walk in Cheshire

THE National Trust is launching its annual Great British Walk on September 1.
This year the event is bigger than ever, with the trust offering 700 downloadable walks on its website, 205 properties - including Dunham Massey - taking part in organised walks and over 2,000 walking events across the UK.
Debbie Peers, spokesperson for the Trust in the North West said: “The appetite for walking is obviously out there in Cheshire – so over the two months of the Great British Walk we’d encourage everyone to find time to do at least one walk, preferably more.
“Here in Cheshire, we’ve got walks to suit all ages and abilities: from family rut walks at Dunham Massey – which take a close look at the lives of Dunham’s red deer - to woodland walks at Alderley Edge and family fungi walks at Quarry Bank.
“For those who want to stretch their legs a bit more, you can join our West Wirral Wander – an eight mile walk around Thurstaston Common down to the Dee Estuary; a 4 mile circular walk at Hare Hill Garden or why not try Lyme Park’s self-led ‘Invigorating Hike’ which takes the Edwardian history of the estate as its theme?
“Pride & Prejudice’ fans can try Lyme’s ‘Pemberley Trail’, marking the 200th anniversary of the Jane Austen’s classic.
“The trail takes you to the different parts of the estate used in the BBC TV production ‘Pride & Prejudice’ in 1995 which starred Colin Firth as Mr Darcy. At half-term we’ve even got Hallowee’n walks at Lyme Park and Hare Hill Garden – and if you’ve been completing some of our ’50 Things to do before you’re 11 ¾’ this summer, you may know that Barefoot Walking is activity No 24 – so why not try it during the Great British Walk and tick it off your list?”
The Great British Walk runs from Sept 1 to Nov 3. To find out what’s happening in Cheshire and the North West, go to www.nationaltrust.org.uk/northwest.
