Family of swallows thrives as their world is torn down around them
7:00am Thursday 22nd August 2013 in News
A PAIR of swallows couldn’t have picked a worse spot for their nest.
They built it on the roof of a barn at Newcroft Farm, Urmston, which was about to be demolished to make way for a new stable block.
After spotting the nest, complete with chicks, farmer Brian Kilcourse was determined not to disrupt the young family.
So he pulled the barn down around them - leaving just a small section to allow the birds to continue to roost.
And the birds continued to feed their young as the barn came down around them.
Now Brian is waiting until the chicks fly off before pulling down the last section.
And next year the birds can look forward to returning - to nest on a new stable block at the Torbay Road farm.
