URMSTON is gearing for its celebration weekend of the anniversary of the Beatles performing in the town.

It is 50 years ago this month since the Fab Four - the biggest group of all time - played at the Urmston show in Abbotsfield Park, an appearance which is cemented in Trafford folklore.

With just days to go before the two-day Beatles In Urmston weekend at the same venue.

Peter Killick, the event organiser, said: “Everything is shaping up for a tremendous weekend of entertainment - and a great opportunity for the community to enjoy a very special occasion.”

The two concerts on August 10 and 11 will be hosted by Radio Manchester’s Mike Sweeney, and those performing include the Bootleg Beatles, Herman’s Hermits, the Tremeloes, the Rainband, the Chancellors and the Vincents (Saturday); and the Merseybeats, Mike Penders Searchers and the Rockin’ Berries (Sunday).

There will be a significant media presence in Urmston over the weekend. Radio Manchester’s Becky Want will be pulling up in the BBC road-bus to broadcast her Friday programme live from Eden Square in the centre of Urmston, from 12noon to 3pm.

BBC Look Northwest is scheduled to link up live at the venue early evening to broadcast interviews and give some background to the weekend’s events.

Peter said fans can benefit from a special discounted ticket incentive.

Anyone currently holding a ticket or tickets for the Saturday gig can buy a Sunday ticket at the reduced price of £10.

This option is only available either via the ticket hotline 0161 749 9084 or by presenting a Saturday ticket in person at the Lord Nelson Hotel , the event’s registered ticket outlet in Urmston.
