ALTRINCHAM people enjoyed some daytime star gazing when comedian Peter Kay was seen filming in the town.

The popular stand up was shooting scenes for Car Share, a new sitcom that will be premiered on BBC iPlayer.

Danny Cohen, Controller of BBC One and Shane Allen, the station’s controller of comedy commissioning have commissioned six 30-minute episodes of the sitcom.

This is the first Peter Kay sitcom for BBC One and is to be directed by the Bolton-born star.

The show has been created by Tim Reid and Paul Coleman and will see Peter co-star alongside Sian Gibson. They play John and Kayleigh who have been thrown together in a company car share scheme and the programme is being filmed entirely in the north-west.

Peter Kay said:“To be finally working with the BBC on a new comedy is a great opportunity. And the idea of two people car sharing to work each day really appealed to me, as it highlights the comedy in the minutiae of the daily trek and allows the spiralling conversations of life to unwind in all of their glory."

This is the first programme to premiere on BBC iPlayer before being broadcast on BBC1.

Danny Cohen said the project was hugely exciting.

He added: "It is hugely exciting that Peter Kay is coming to BBC One with his new series - even more so with the innovative plan we have to launch the show online."

Shane Allen said: "Everyone adores Peter. It’s bold and exciting for him to head in a more naturalistic comedy direction with this project. It will be a nifty new addition to his incredible body of work and the way it is being launched is very canny.”
