A GROUP of residents is hoping to breathe life back into Altrincham by taking to the streets for a French-themed festival.
Business owners and residents of the Moss Lane area have teamed up to create a day out with a difference this summer.
The group have earmarked July 2013 for the all things red, white and blue festival and hope it brings opportunity to the often-overlooked Moss Lane area of the town.
Zainul Sachak, who is spearheading the project, said: “It is an example of the community taking steps to help themselves in helping to regenerate their own town.”
The group proposes to hold the festival in the area between Altrincham Football Ground and the parade of shops facing it.
The event will be linked to the Bastille Day celebrations, which take place on the weekend of July 13/14.
The festival will include residents, schools and traders creating a French-themed square with street cafes, shops and stalls selling a range of French foods, fresh produce and French-related services.
The highlights will include a a firework display and concert at Altrincham’s Moss Lane football ground on July 13.
Schools will be invited to create French-themed items with a range of activities on offer such as a football tournament, art displays, scarecrow competitions, French games and music.
Zainul said the group has received great enthusiasm and plans have begun to enlist volunteers to help organise and participate in the festivities, which are backed by Alliance Français de Manchester - a French cultural and language charity.
To find out more about the event contact Zainul on 07968 025730 or email@example.com. There are also further details on Facebook account altyfrenchfest.
A meeting to plan the event will be held at 6pm on April 16 at the King George pub on Moss Lane, near Altrincham’s football ground - all welcome.
