Pensioner in critical condition after being hit by cyclist on Broadheath pedestrian crossing
A PENSIONER is in a life-threatening condition after colliding with a cyclist.
The 81-year-old man was walking across a pedestrian crossing on Manchester Road, Broadheath, when he was hit by the 22-year-old cyclist.
The pedestrian suffered serious head injuries in the collision, which occurred at around 6.40pm last night, close to the junction of Devonshire Street.
The elderly man was initially treated by a doctor who was passing, but was then taken to Salford Royal Hospital.
Numerous police cars and ambulances were seen by passing motorists and a side road was closed off for some time.
The pensioner remains in a critical condition, his injuries are said to be life-threatening.
The cyclist was not injured in the incident.
