TIMPERLEY funnyman Frank Sidebottom will be honoured twice - with a plaque bearing the words of one of his comic songs.

The plaque will be unveiled on the same day as the statue - June 23 - two days after the third anniversary of the death of Sidebottom creator Chris Sievey.

It will bear some of the lyrics from Timperley Sunset and will read: “As long as I gaze on the Timperley sunset, I’m in paradise.”

The plaque will be located near the site of the statue in the heart of Timperley Village and project spokesman and ward councillor Neil Taylor said when the statue’s head is added the memorial to the much loved star will be complete.

Neil said the initial unveiling date of April 1, which is Frank Sidebottom’s birthday, but technical problems forced it to be put back until the summer.

He said: “This is down to the thousands of fans out there who have either bought some merchandise, attended a fundraiser or made a donation. This has been funded 100 per cent by the fans and no money from anywhere else has ever been taken.

“The family will be doing the actual unveiling but we do expect a lot of people to be in attendance and there’s also a lot of media interest in this.”
