Eileen and Mae
SIX-year-old Mae Robinson isn’t scared when her mother says in a menacing way: “I’ll get you my pretty.”
She knows she is only acting because the pair will both appear in Hyde Musical Theatre’s production of The Wizard of Oz at the Hyde Festival Theatre during the week commencing March 18.
Mum Eileen will be the Wicked Witch of the West and Mae will play a Munchkin.
Eileen, aged 35, who, when not on her broomstick, runs Maisie Cakes said: “It’s a part I have always wanted to play. I have a thing about witches.
“When I was little, I played the witch in Hansel and Gretel.”
Eileen, from Overton Crescent, Sale, has only 15 minutes to put on her make-up between playing Miss Gultch who turns into a witch, and returning.
“The green make-up doesn’t come off. Even in the daytime, I will have a green face!”
To get her part, Mae attended a two-hour workshop where she had to learn a dance and sing numbers such as Follow the Yellow Brick Road.
A pupil at St Margaret Ward School in Sale, she said: “I knew the man was going to choose me because he pointed at me.”
Eileen, who had to perform a scene at her audition, said: “We were thrilled when we both got parts.”
Both are experienced performers. Eileen has been in many Sale and Altrincham Musical Theatre shows and Mae in a June Rendell dancing display. “We are very lucky to be in it,” said Eileen.
