A BROADHEATH company has won a £1.8million contract to build the new SEA LIFE aquarium at the Trafford Centre.
McGoff and Byrne will create a new entrance to the unit and a themed retail space at the first SEA LIFE to be built in England for 15 years.
The principal contractor will also refurbish the existing retail space in Barton Square, introducing specifically designed concrete structures for the ocean tank, a life support systems tank and concrete bases for the ray tank.
Construction is underway, scheduled for completion in the spring. The attraction, which will feature ocean caves, rock pools and beach areas is due to open to the public in June.
James McGoff, managing director at McGoff & Byrne, said the company is proud to have been appointed.
“The creation of the aquarium is a complex project, unlike anything we have ever built before, but we are thrilled to be part of such a unique scheme.”
Suzie Atkins, project manager for Merlin Entertainments Group, added: “We are delighted to be working with McGoff & Byrne, following the company’s comprehensive and competitive tender.
“The company is looking forward to a successful installation of the centre, including some exceptional elements such as that of the underwater viewing tunnel.
McGoff & Byrne’s excellent client relationships and high quality work across the UK will help to deliver this very exciting project to the highest standard.”
