Stretford and Urmston MP calls for improved 247 bus service

MP Kate Green has contacted Arriva to ask them to make improvements to a busy bus service.

People from across Trafford have contacted Kate to complain about unreliable and late-running services on the 247 bus route , which serves Davyhulme, Flixton, Altrincham, Partington, Carrington and the Trafford Centre.

Stretford and Urmston MP Ms Green said: “I’ve had a large number of people come to me to complain about the poor service provided on the 247 route.

"My constituents have said that busses often run late, and sometimes do not even turn up at all.

"We should all be encouraged to use public transport, so it’s important that bus and train companies provide services that people can rely on.

"A lot of people from across Trafford use the 247 route on a daily basis to get to work, to school or college, or to go about their daily lives, and the current level of service that the bus company is providing is unacceptable.

"I have contacted Arriva asking them to prioritise improving the 247 bus service, and I hope that they will make the required changes as soon as possible."

A spokesperson for Arriva said: “The 247 route is extremely busy and the amount of traffic on the road undoubtedly has an effect on the reliability of a bus service.

"Over the last 12 months we have introduced various timetable changes to try to improve our reliability whilst maintaining a regular service to meet the needs of our customers.

“We are currently reviewing our bus network in the area and will look to implement any changes we can to further improve service reliability.”
