Drunk driver fined after crashing outside policeman's house
4:00pm Monday 18th February 2013 in News
AN off-duty policeman was woken up when a party goer on the way home crashed outside his house.
The officer found that scaffolder Adam Rakauskas, 27, from Stretford, had ploughed into two parked vehicles at 5 o’clock in the morning.
Rakauskas, of Hurstbrook Drive, pleaded guilty before Manchester magistrates to driving while nearly twice the limit and was given a 20 month ban.
Ordering him to carry out 80 hours unpaid work District Judge Mark Hadfield said “The risk you presented to other road users was immense”.
Prosecutor Tina Cunnane said Rakauskas claimed he had crashed after another car had pulled out in front of him on Barton Road, Stretford.
All three cars were extensively damaged and he said he had been to a party.
“I had a couple of drinks and then everything is a blank. I feel my drinks were laced”, he said.
Rakauskas was ordered to pay £85 court costs as well as a £60 victim surcharge.
