ALTRINCHAM families are turning waste into cash for the brain tumour charity Ellie’s Fund.

Mums attending baby classes at TinyTalk baby signing and babylovesmassage are collecting empty baby wipe packets, which are recycled into plastic bibs, dustbins and watering cans.

So far the charity has raised over £10,000 from collections around the country.

Andrea Julyan, baby signing teacher, set up the collection point to support the work done by Ellie’s Fund, as Ellie’s mum, from Scarborough, had also been a TinyTalk teacher.

Andrea, who runs classes at Altrincham United Reformed Church, Woodlands Parkway, Timperley, said, “Heather lost Ellie to brain cancer when she was only 14, but has found the strength to go on and do amazing work increasing awareness about childhood brain cancer, and fundraising to support families with children who have the condition and for much needed research.

“The baby wipe packet collection is such an easy way that I can help Heather and the charity. I pack them up, send them off to the recycling plant and Ellie’s Fund gets 2p for each packet. I think it appeals to anyone who has collected rubbish for a Blue Peter campaign in their childhood.

“The collection has also recently been given a boost by a large quantity of empty wipe packets coming in from local babylovesmassage teacher Kate Warren. So far together we have sent off around 3000 packets but it is an ongoing collection so more are always welcome."

Any parents or groups involved with babies and young children who would be interested in collecting, can contact Andrea at andreaj@tinytalk.co.uk or Kate at babylovesmassage@live.co.uk.
