Foster families chill out
TRAFFORD Council extended a 'thankyou' to the birth children of foster carers at the Chill Factore last week.
Joined by their parents, 21 sons and daughters took to the slopes for a fun time, as part of the Fostering Network's celebration of their contribution to successful foster care.
The event gave them the chance to enjoy themselves and chat to each other about their own experiences.
Executive councillor Linda Blackburn, who wrapped up well so she could be on hand to help the young people at the bottom of the slopes, said the huge impact fostering has on birth children cannot be overlooked.
"We all appreciate and admire the huge efforts sons and daughters make to help foster placements work well. Expectations on them are high and they need to feel comfortable with their parents' decision to foster. The council recognises how important it is that they feel valued and that their voices are heard. Birth children have to deal with often challenging situations and we are committed to doing everything possible to make sure they receive the support they need at all times.
"I would like to extend my personal thanks to each and every one of them. It was an absolute pleasure and honour to spend time in their company this last week."
