A Valentine tale of love and Spanish

A HEARTWARMING tale of shared interests for Valentines Day.

LIKE most of us, Fiona and Damian had always envied people who could speak a second language, but never got round to taking on the challenge and returning to college.

However, all this changed in September last year when they enrolled on a part-time Spanish course at Trafford College.

Fiona Molloy, 30, and partner Damian Keenaghan, 36, from Hale, decided to pursue their passion for everything Spanish having travelled to the country numerous times before, where they were always inspired by the rich culture and fantastic food.

With demanding careers in commercial management and the Fire Service, Fiona and Damian found the course to be a great excuse to get away from their hectic lives.

Fiona said; “The course has provided us with escapism from the pressures of our jobs and the responsibilities we have at home. It gives us the chance to spend some real quality time together.”

As a fire fighter, Damian is constantly updating his skills and training to ensure he is at the top of his profession, but admits he enjoyed been taken out of his comfort zone.

“From the first lesson we had to work with other people who we had never met before – in a completely different language! This broke the ice straight away and we have met some really great people.”

Both agree that enrolling on a part-time course at the College has added a new dynamic to their relationship. Fiona said: “It has been really good to learn not only the language, but we have also discovered a few new things about each other.”

Damian added: “We would definitely recommend this course. It is great to challenge yourself and take yourself and learn something together.”

  • Trafford College has a range of part time courses for adults starting in February and March. There will also be an open day on Thursday, March 7, 5pm to 8pm for 16 to 18 year olds and Access and Higher Education Courses. For more information call 0161 886 7070 or visit www.trafford.ac.uk
