Pony trapped in Ashton-on-Mersey pond

A PONY which became trapped in a pond had to be rescued by firefighters last night.

The animal became wedged in the five foot deep pool of water on Banky Lane, Ashton-on-Mersey at around 7.30pm.

RSPCA officers attended initially, but called for backup from firefighters when they could not free the pony.

The crew from Altrincham Fire Station eventually managed to rescue the animal, which was unharmed in the incident, using rope.
