Histon 2 Altrincham 0

HISTON started this game on Tuesday night in 19th place and Altrincham were fourth but it was the Cambridgeshire side which completely outplayed an abject Altrincham who forced only one save and a clearance off the line from the home defence.

The opening goal arrived in the ninth minute when full-back Mills was left in too much space, on the right, 25 yards out. His mis-cued shot fell for Sheppard, who scored from close range..

Alty continued to labour on a soft and uneven surface while their youthful opponents closed them down and attacked with more purpose. Histon doubled their lead when Hall was judged to have fouled an opponent just inside the box. Stevenson sent Coburn the wrong way from the spot, with 24 minutes gone.

The only first-half effort of note from Altrincham was a Watmore shot which was saved.

Altrincham brought on Lacey for Moult at the interval and Leather for Lawrie after the hour mark. But they continued to under-perform as time after time a few neat passes across the pitch were followed by loss of possession.

A corner did produce a clearance off the line from a Hall header but that was as good as it got.

Brooke came on for Clee but the pattern of the game was little changed with a couple of Histon breakaways the nearest to producing a goal in the closing stages.
