DR Matt Fox, a teacher at Ashton on Mersey School, is one of the faces of a national advertising campaign designed to encourage more graduates into the classroom.
The 34-year-old, who has spent his entire teaching career teaching science at AOM, said the Teaching Agency’s initiative is already having an impact.
Matt, whose qualifications include a degree in biomedical sciences said the Agency approached Ashton on Mersey because of its outstanding status.
He said: “It’s based on the Government’s aim of trying to raise the academic profile of teaching and trying to get more young professionals into teaching. From university I went into research and then switched my career.”
Matt said since the campaign started in May last year, more than 3,500 people in the north west have expressed an interest in a career in teaching.
He said one of the things he enjoys about being a teacher is his varied workload.
Matt said: “Every day you go into work it’s a different challenge. Also it’s helping pupils - seeing that spark when they understand something. It’s such a buzz, seeing someone grasp knowledge.”
