IT was another busy weekend for Trafford’s gritters, with staff working throughout Friday night and the early hours of Saturday morning after heavy snowfall hit the borough.

An impressive 200 tonnes of salt was spread during this period, compared to an average of 30 tonnes.

Executive councillor Alan Mitchell said: “In Trafford we are well prepared for any extreme ice or snow episodes. Not only do we have a substantial store of grit in our salt barn, we also have a team of dedicated staff who stay on call 24/7 to carry out the gritting service for the benefit of all local residents and people travelling through the borough.

“Friday night was a perfect example of how our winter maintenance plan springs into action to keep traffic running smoothly during cold spells.”
