Bumps and Babies meet up for parents and parents-to-be at the Salvation Army, in Ashton Road, Sale

MUMS starting maternity leave and parents with babies are being invited to join a weekly charity get-together.

Trafford NCT (National Childbirth Trust) Branch organises a weekly Bumps and Babes group at the Salvation Army, in Ashton Road, Sale.

It’s a chance for babies to play with different toys and meet playmates, while parents and parents-to-be can socialise and swap tips on feeding, sleep and even nappy contents.

Bumps and Babies is for babies up to 12 months and their carers. It runs from 10.30 until 12noon every Friday and costs £2 per family. The entrance price includes a warm drink and a biscuit.

Bumps and Babies organiser Eeron Cunningham, who is hoping to train as a midwife, said: “The group is a really good chance for new parents to get out of the house with their babies and meet other mums and dads who know exactly what they are going through.

"The mums and dads say it’s nice to have somewhere friendly to go where it doesn’t matter if your baby cries - especially in the early days with a newborn. It’s also a good place for your little crawler to let off some steam and try out different toys and of course there’s also someone on hand to make you a warm drink too!”

One mum who has benefited from the group is Frances Riley from Sale and her baby Lucy.

Frances said: “I first went along when I was six months pregnant and now my daughter is six months old. I look forward to Friday mornings for a coffee and a good old chat. "

Lucy likes playing on a bean bag and with the toys in a warm, safe environment and it’s great for me to get out and meet other parents. You can ask advice on everything baby-related and simply have a laugh.”

Trafford Branch is one of NCT's network of more than 300 branches in the UK, dedicated to supporting parents and parents-to-be via its range of services including antenatal and postnatal courses, breastfeeding support, bumps and babies groups, coffee mornings, Nearly New Sales and first aid courses.
