POLICE have labeled an attack on a man in the car park of KFC at Trafford Retail Park as ‘savage’.

The 40-year-old victim was set upon by two men because he intervened when the offenders were abusing staff at the fast-food restaurant on January 1.

At around 7.30pm, the victim had gone into the Neary Way outlet to order food for himself, his fiancé and their young child, who were waiting in his car.

He heard the two offenders swearing at staff on the tills and told them to stop — they left, but went into hiding outside the restaurant.

When the victim returned to his car, the two men reappeared and began attacking his car, smashing a window in the process.

According to a Greater Manchester Police spokesman, the victim got out of the car and confronted the men in order to protect his family — at which point one of the offenders produced an unknown weapon from behind his back and slashed the victim across the abdomen, leaving him with a two inch cut to his side.

He also sustained cuts to his hand from shards of broken glass, as well as a swollen left ear from where he was punched.

The offenders then ran off. Police have issued two CCTV stills of the offenders and are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

One was described as white, with a slim face, about 6ft 2in tall, between 25 and 30-years-old and wearing a black Adidas top.

Det Con Stu Brown said: "What happened to this man was both senseless but also outrageous.

"He intervened like any good-natured person would when they heard these two thugs verbally abusing staff, and for one simple act of kindness, he was violently attacked by these men who were clearly lying in wait to exact their ‘revenge’.

"The fact they were prepared to use such violence when they must have clearly seen a young baby in the car is absolutely despicable and thankfully, though clearly by chance not design, the baby was not struck by any shards of glass.

"What I want people to do is use the sense of anger they will feel reading about this attack and help us find the two culprits.

"We have issued two CCTV stills, which although of not great quality, will hopefully spur someone into coming forward with information about their identity.

"We need to find these men so please tell us if you know who they are."
