Altrincham children’s choir rocking the dancefloor
11:17am Wednesday 23rd January 2013 in News
ALTRINCHAM Children’s Choir is aiming for the top of the charts after being picked to record with an internationally-acclaimed DJ and producer.
The five to 11-year-olds will follow in the illustrious footsteps of Lady Gaga and Elbow when they head into Manchester’s Blueprint Studios this weekend.
Superstar dance DJ Arno Cost, whose fans include David Guetta and Pete Tong, is jetting in from Paris to personally work with the 30-strong choir, which was only started five months ago by Manchester sisters Claire and Tina O’Brien.
In the choir’s first public performance, they wowed the crowds at the switch-on of the Christmas lights in Altrincham with their festive re-working of The Ting Tings 'That’s Not My Name'.
Cost’s management team then contacted the choir to work with him.
Cost, whose latest single 'Head Up' was released on Steve Angello's label, Size Records, on January 21, has established himself as a major international DJ since 2006.
Claire said: “This choir is all about developing vocal technique and performance skills, but we also want to give our members access to unique experiences and a range of musical styles.
“So, when we were approached by Arno’s management team to work with him on their recording, we didn’t hesitate to say yes. Working in a professional recording studio with an artist of Arno’s international calibre will be a truly memorable occasion for all the children.”
After this, Tina and Claire – who are professional singers and music teachers – have a number of other exciting projects in the pipeline for 2013, so they are looking to add at least 10 more recruits.Claire added: “Our slogan is no audition, just ambition. We don’t put children through the nerve-wracking audition process and they can come along for a free taster session before joining up.”
