Volunteers bring sparkle back to Altrincham

Volunteers bring sparkle back to town Volunteers bring sparkle back to town

COMMUNITY group ‘Our Altrincham’ is appealing for more volunteers to take part in this Sunday’s ‘Big Tidy Up’, which aims to bring some sparkle back to Altrincham.

With the help of cleaning service, Dream Cleaning, who have offered to clean some of the town’s filthy road signs, volunteers will be going out litter picking in small teams, each with their own route map.

Volunteers will start work at 1.30pm and return for refreshments two hours later.

Our Altrincham has been cleaning up the town since July 2010 and was recently awarded voluntary sector funding from Trafford Council after residents voted overwhelmingly to support it.

Their success can be measured by the 872 bags of litter removed from streets and green spaces so far - that equates to about 4.3 tonnes of rubbish. They expect to reach the milestone of 1,000 bags during 2013.

Following this Sunday’s Big Tidy Up (January 27), the next one will be held on March 10. Anyone interested in taking part in either event should contact the group via the website www.OurAltrincham.org where more information can also be found.
