Police searching for missing Sale man, Neil Marsom, and missing Stockport man, Michael Simpson, find body

POLICE searching for missing Sale man, Neil Marsom, and missing Stockport man, Michael Simpson, have found a body in the river Goyt.
Officers found the body in the water in Bredbury, Stockport, shortly before 2pm yesterday (January 9).
A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: “Formal identification is not due to take place until after the body has been safely recovered.
“The families of both Michael Simpson and Neil Marsom have been informed of this development and specially trained officers are in regular contact with them.”
Mr Marsom, 38, has not been seen since he was dropped off in Hazel Grove, Stockport, at 11am on January 3.
Two hours later, officers from an underwater search team came across him struggling in the river at around 12.40pm, while carrying out a search in relation to a separate investigation.
The officers made efforts to pull Mr Marsom from the river, but he became submerged and was carried downstream in the fast moving water.
Police have been searching for Mr Marsom since that time, but he is presumed to have drowned.
Police are now appealing for the public’s help to trace his last known movements.
He was dropped on London Road in Hazel Grove, Stockport, near to the junction with School Street, at 11am on January 3.
Police are keen to hear from anyone who saw or spoke to Mr Marsom, or who saw how he came to be in the water.
Officers discovered the body near to the Pear Mill Industrial Estate, Bredbury.
