Loreto student wins top sports award

ALTRINCHAM student and Olympic hopeful Issy Centeleghe has won the East Cheshire Young Sports Achiever of the Year.

The 16-year-old Loreto Grammar School pupil was given the accolade after winning gold in the 50 metre butterfly and a silver medal in the 100m butterfly at the North West Regional Championships en route to progressing to the Olympic qualifiers Sponsored by Evoid Drinks of Poynton, Issy has some pertinent advice for fellow young sports people: She said: “Just keep going. Even when you feel it is really bad, you're tired, it's cold and you're aching just keep going, because it is the pain that makes the rewards all the more worthwhile.”

Issy, who trains for 17 hours every week both in the pool and in the gym and on the road, has her sights set on a Commonwealth Games berth for Glasgow in 2014 and then an Olympic spot in 2016.
