FIREFIGHTERS had to use specialist cutting equipment to free a man who had become trapped between a car and a recovery truck vehicle.

The incident took place on Kings Road, Stretford, at around 6.15pm on Saturday, January 5.

The 33-year-old car transporter driver had winched his truck to another car and was attempting to remove the winch hook from underneath the other vehicle.

However, in doing this, the operator unintentionally restarted the winch hook, which dropped down and trapped both his arms between the car and the cab of the recovery vehicle.

The man could not free himself, so fire crews from Sale and Stretford stations were called and managed to cut the man free using specialist equipment.

The recovery truck driver was said to be in some pain and was suffering crushing injuries to his left arm.

He was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary by ambulance.

A spokesman for North West Ambulance said the man was did not suffer a serious trauma injury.
